Botany for Birders will be presented by Mickey Long at the Whittier Area Audubon general meeting on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 7:30 pm. We have changed the destination of our April field trip: We will be going to Piute Ponds - the largest freshwater marsh in Los Angeles County. We have been invited to return to the Homestead Museum’s spring event Saturday April 29, 2017. At last year’s Fair we helped kids learn about being a Citizen Scientist and offered a chance to make a simple bird feeder. The Fair itself is a fun collection of displays, crafts, music, food and booths to purchase Victorian themed clothing, toys and decorative items.

Big Morongo Field Trip

Our May field trip will be to Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, which is located north of Palm Springs. We will convene in the parking lot of the Whittier Community Center and carpool/caravan, leaving at 6:00 am sharp. It’s close to a 2-hour drive, so we must leave promptly at 6:00. Mountain Birding

June 17

Plans are to wander along Angeles Crest Highway and pull out to see what birds are spending their summer in the San Gabriel Mountains.  If you are driving, you will need a National Forest Adventure Pass. Bring lunch and plenty of water. We will leave the Whittier Community Center parking lot at 6:00 am.  We should be back in Whittier around 4:00 pm.
