UPDATED: Joshua Tree Field Trip

Update for March 18 Field Trip to Joshua Tree: I just got back from a scouting run to Joshua Tree. The Joshua Trees were starting to bloom. The Yucca’s generally had not. The whole park seemed to be covered in green. The smoke trees looked to be recovering. It was a Spring that I had not seen there in a long time. Audubon California’s 4000-acre Starr Ranch Sanctuary in southeast Orange County invites you to our spring bird banding workshops for adults. Because of the specialized nature of these workshops, we are asking that only serious students and potential Starr Ranch bird banding volunteers attend. Saturday morning beginner bird walk Sycamore Canyon Trail, Whittier, off of Workman Mill Road. The trail is located adjacent to Rose Hills Cemetery gate 17, but note that the trail is not in the cemetery! The entrance to Sycamore Canyon is a driveway just southwest of the entrance to the cemetery.

We have been invited to return to the Homestead Museum’s spring event Saturday April 29, 2017. At last year’s Fair we helped kids learn about being a Citizen Scientist and offered a chance to make a simple bird feeder. The Fair itself is a fun collection of displays, crafts, music, food and booths to purchase Victorian themed clothing, toys and decorative items.

Big Morongo Field Trip

Our May field trip will be to Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, which is located north of Palm Springs. We will convene in the parking lot of the Whittier Community Center and carpool/caravan, leaving at 6:00 am sharp. It’s close to a 2-hour drive, so we must leave promptly at 6:00.
