While she serves as the liaison to Southern California chapters, Natasha helps to build local advocacy on a variety of issues, with climate at the top of the list. San Jacinto Field Trip

San Jacinto Wildlife Area is, perhaps, the best place to see just about every kind of raptor there is for Southern California. Previously a juvenile gyrfalcon had been seen making an early morning appearance starting in early January. Rough-legged Hawks, Kestrels, Harriers and Red-tails are everywhere. Hawking Antelope Valley

As is the custom, Larry Schmahl will lead an early January field trip to Antelope Valley to search out Winter desert visitors such as Ferruginous and Red-tailed Hawks. We generally get good looks at mountain plovers, blackbirds and assorted agricultural field residents. CAUTION: Cold and windy with possible mud. Saturday Morning Beginner Birdwalk

Join us for our beginner bird walk in Sycamore Canyon. Meet at the Sycamore Canyon trail head. The trail is located adjacent to Rose Hills Cemetery gate 17, but note that the trail is not in the cemetery! The entrance to Sycamore Canyon is a driveway just southwest of the entrance to the cemetery.

Bolsa Chica Field Trip

The January field trip will be to the Bolsa Chica wetlands in Huntington Beach. Bolsa Chica is a world-class birding spot. Expect waders, ducks, shorebirds, gulls, terns, raptors, and songbirds. We’ll meet at Whittier Community Center at 7:00 am to carpool and caravan. If you would rather meet there, expect us to rendezvous in the PCH parking lot around 7:45 am.
